FAQs

  • What is a "bend" and how do you define it?

At WaterStone Academy we define “bend” as the unique traits God wired into each human heart to know Him and grow to become like Him.

We define a student’s Bend according to an original, proprietary approach based off of observable behaviors. This Bend is then used as the lens in which the student learns to learn.

We believe God intended every one of to discover and grow in this bend. This is inspired by our guiding verse, Proverbs 22:6.

“Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6, AMPC

  • What is your statement of faith?

As a ministry of WaterStone Church, we abide by the same statement of faith and culture.

You can trust that the name of Jesus Christ will be proclaimed often, with wonder and love, and that we will do so in the power of His Holy Spirit.

You can find our full statement of faith linked below.

  • How does 'hybrid' education work?

For us, a hybrid education means that students experience education in both a classroom and home environment.

We believe this hybrid model allows families to experience the customization of home education with the accountability and guidance of educational support system.

Parents drop off students as they attend classes on campus Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30am - 2pm.

The other days of the week, students continue their work with their parents by following the home lesson plans crafted by the WaterStone Academy faculty.

  • What are the class sizes?

While on campus, students engage in hands-on instruction within small classroom sizes (1:15 teacher-student ratio).

They receive instruction from educators committed your child’s academic excellence, as well as the discovery and growth of every child’s bend.

  • What is your philosophy of education?

What makes WaterStone Academy different is its original approach to education.

While it borrows inspiration from Classical methods, Charlotte Mason, and some traditional elements, all of these methods fall under the inspiration of our own proprietary method in trait-focused learning.

Our philosophy of education is built on four foundations:

    • Trait-focused

    • Parent-partnered

    • Application-oriented

    • Christ-centered

  • When will more grades become available?

In the next 5-10 years, our goal is to host a complete K-12th grade program.

In 2024-2025, we will be offering the Core and Enrichment Track for K-6th grade students, with an option for their older homeschooling siblings to participate in our 7th-12th Grade Home Education Enrichment pilot.

The availability of other grade programs is dependent upon indicated interest and space within our campus. We are actively working to build a brand new campus in the next five years.

But in the end, we rely on the Lord’s timing and guidance in all decisions.

  • What is the parent commitment?

Parent partnership is a core value at WaterStone Academy. Our mission is to equip entire families to discover and grow in their God-given bend. Our culture inspires lifelong learners, everyday visionaries, and servant leaders dedicated to continuous growth – academically and personally. In order to create and maintain this culture, this requires consistency between the home and class environments.

  • Is this a private school?

Our goal is always parent-partnered education, where parents direct the educational experience.

For our 2024-2025 school year, WaterStone Academy will be a Home Education Program.

As we continue to grow, the value of becoming a private school remains a subject of prayer. Our goal is to execute on strategies that serve our trait-focused, parent-partnered, application-oriented, and Christ-centered philosophy.

Families enrolled will file with the state as a homeschool student, responsible for reporting grades and attendance to the state. However, the rest of the program remains at the quality of a university, hybrid model, as you would find in a private school environment.
